So I was looking at older posts on this blog today. The one that is something about BYU before fall? In the museums? I have a caption under the stuffed rodent, but the caption was just as close to a picture of my sister...
No, the other rodents didn't make fun of her... ha ha!
(I'll delete this, Heidi, if you want me to.)
Today at work I was in charge of carving the meat. So I got this big black chef's coat and a chef's hat. I wish I had pictures... I don't know how people took me seriously.

The Road Less Traveled By
Required reading for this post: click here

This is my road less traveled story. The other day our carpets were being cleaned. So our couches were stacked in the kitchen. It ticked me off! You had to climb over them every time you wanted something to eat. (Incidentally, I discovered a great diet method... try it.) Anyway, while the carpet was drying they made us stay out. So I ran some errands and wandered around campus. In my travels, I found this cute little path. Anyone who finds it at BYU gets ten points.
It's a long-cut to get somewhere, but "it has made all the difference..." Take a look.
A cement fossil!
A cat?
And a little family of birdies.
But best of all:
Just a pretty scene? Look closer.
Is that a leg?!
And a deer?
There's a name for that deer. An older lady coming back to school to finish her degree, in one of my classes, said the university called people like her "unconventional students" or something. That's what this deer is. An unconventional student.

Holly met some celebri-- celebret-- some famous people!
It was extremely out of character for me to do this... but there you have it.

One of those dumb forwards...that was actually pretty fun.

Arizona
Grandma, Mom, and I drove to Arizona last week. One day I was looking at pictures of all my family who lived down there, and I'm like, we're going. Now. I knew if I made more excuses of how I could go later, I would never make it down. But, by picking that weekend, I missed my cousin Riley's farewell. Good job, Holly, right? I hope he'll be able to forgive me, as well as other people I missed.
With that said, look at my pictures!
Aunt Judy helped me sew some skirts! Here's one of them. It was awesome. We had a lot of fun in fabric stores and just sitting and sewing all day.
Funny thing, in one of the fabric stores, there was a pile of "man magazines" next to a chair. Apparently this was where you put your husband when you are shopping for fabric.
On Aunt Judy's fridge is a Pickles comic. The husband is telling a friend that he wants to be cremated and sprinkled in a fabric store so maybe his wife will come visit him. Ha ha.

In-and-Out Burger! There's my cousin Kristy's two kids, Chase and Madison. :) They were fun.
Another family gathering. It really was impressive how often these people saw each other. Like several times a week.
There's Madison again on the right, and my cousin Teri-Ann's twins, Charity and Chelsea. Sorry, friends, I can't tell who is whom right now. Mom gave all the kids suckers, and they shared theirs with their grandma. It was adorable.
One of those hotel dinners. It was extremely makeshift, but fun because it was.
Did you know oranges are green before they are orange. And blueberries are red before they are blue. There's something profound about this, but I don't know what it is.

This is us on the road, trying to amuse ourselves.
If you drive to Arizona, you go through Indian reservations. They really are quite depressing. Their land is- not the most fruitful land, it looks like, and a lot of them live very far apart from everyone else. Are they happy?
I worry about their culture. To an anthropologist, death of a culture is the worst thing that can happen. And I was almost an anthropologist, so it still makes me sad.
Let me know if you have any deep wisdom concerning this.

There was a lot of the drive that was gorgeous, though. If a picture looks boring, click on it and look at it full screen. Two inches on a computer screen doesn't really do it justice. Or you can just skip them. I won't be offended. (sort of.)

My first-ever sight of a cactus . (In recent memory.) It was so cool!
This is the view from Aunt Judy's porch. Not bad?

Here is the Mesa temple. We went to the visitors' center, and it was really cool. I highly recommend it, if you are ever in Mesa.

This is either Mesa or Phoenix. It was so cool! There are cacti in the middle of town!!! I don't know what else I expected from Arizona, but it wasn't that.

The Grand Canyon! From a distance.

These last four were taken in Utah. Pretty, eh?

Winter 2008
Second half of the year. My friends and I, for Valentine's Day, had a group date dinner. We were sitting around about a week before, thinking about how lame Valentine's was going to be because... who knew why. And then we decided to do something fun. The girls decided to figure out who would make what, who would wear what color combinations (The important considerations!) and the boys would decide amongst themselves the little matter who would ask whom.I'm kidding. The girls were much more interested in how the boys figured things out. They did a great job, and decided things how we wanted them to. ha ha.
These are the people I spent a lot of free time with. In the blue there's Ben, from Alaska, with Sara who is getting married soon! To someone else. :) Then Ryan and Shawnelle, and Ryan and Lauren, and Stuart and I.
Like my decorating behind us? There were also white Christmas lights taped up by the ceiling. The whole effect was very romantic. ;)
Fall 2007
Alright, friends. It's time to talk about last year at college! This is rather lengthy. So get comfortable.

Here are some of my friends. There at the top is Ashley. She lives in the apartments next to me. Bob Ross would call that a happy accident. And then Julie and me, about to eat a delicious lunch, if I remember. She is a great flute player. Moved to Idaho. Grr.
Nearly all the boys in my ward got their mission calls up at college and left after the semester. There's Brandon opening his mission call to Germany. All the boys had opening-their-mission-call gatherings. They were fun.
One Sunday the boys had a tie tying contest. Andrew, there in the top right, won. But here is the picture we took for one of those male fashion magazines. We think the short ties will make it in someday.
Homework wasn't going too well this day.
Apparently Stuart is going stag. To something. We're not sure what.
Our friend Parker's hockey game. Busmet? At one point it spelled out Parker's team name. Don't worry, I just showed my support by cheering. What did you think?!
The boy with the S on his chest would shout "RIP HIS FACE OFF!" Every time they faced-off. Ha ha.
We had our own potluck thanksgiving dinner.
Going home for Thanksgiving was a lot of fun. It was really good to see my family. We went to the Denver Museum of something. (Heidi's choice, obviously.)
I love this picture. My brother in law is secretly a dinosaur.

I think these two pictures captured a moment of video game playing. It looks like Jeff won, and Erik is pouting.

Someone got Saran wrapped to a pole...
I love swing dancing. And I also love not dancing in heels.
Here's my roommate, Gabby, with her boyfriend Jake. I can't believe the luck of this girl! He was one of the first guys she met up there!!
Let me say, however, that I introduced him to her. I met a boy, Jon, who lived in Salt Lake city and came down to Provo every once in a while to take me out. He brought down his friend Jake for my roommate. Success! I'm trying not to let it go to my head and set up all of my friends.
It was our other roommate's birthday. This is what I had waiting for her in the morning.
Here she is, Moana Parker. She was cool. She brought over a bunch of cute Polynesian boys sometimes. One sang and played his ukelele for me. :)
Apparently spaghetti noodles are flammable. I put on some noodles for lunch, go read a book. Smell some smoke. "Probably something on the burner..." I look over and FLAMES! Fortunately I got it out, and nothing was burned. Except my noodles.
I banned myself from the stove for a few days.
