Yay for Camping

Bryan, Heidi and I took some time in the great outdoors and tried our hand at survival. We took our friends, Nate, Graham, and Kimber Albrechtson with us, just in case it was miserable. Misery loves company.

JK. Graham is one day younger than Heidi, and we thought they'd have fun playing with each other. They did indeed.

It was an excellent idea because we love the Albrechtsons. We broke the silence of the woods with lots of laughing. Sorry, silence.

I'm sure Heidi appreciated the orange bag.
It kept her busy for so long.

And our little woodsman, here,
taking care of his teeth.

I had everything prepared. I had dinner ready to go, I had packed as little as possible. I didn't forget anything except a jacked for Heidi. (And even then, She had her little outfit and a blanket.)

The only unfortunately thing I forgot is to flip the foil dinners. Apparently you have to do that so half your meal isn't charred. Well, half our meal was indeed charred. One redeeming feature of dinner was muffins, cooked in the coals in foil-wrapped orange skins which were DELICIOUS. Google "orange peel campfire muffins" for the treat of your life. Another was part of the breakfast rations of ketchup.

Nate schooled us in Scrabble. As it got darker, someone had to crank our flashlight continuously. One person got to see while they took the turn, the rest of us got to think. :)

Bryan slept like a rock, Heidi slept like a little rock, and I did not. Paranoia from woods-noises and cold babies does that to you. Eventually, though, I warmed Heidi up and the bears/wolves/mountain lions went away.

Kimber's breakfast was great, complete with cinnamon rolls roasted over the fire like marshmallows.

Even with the carcinogen-laced dinner, cold babies, and "wild animals," I would much rather be out there having fun with friends. There's always next summer, right?
